Microsoft MapPoint by Microsoft was a desktop business mapping and data visualization application for Windows. It helped sales, marketing, and logistics teams import address and numeric data from Excel and other sources; geocode that data onto detailed street-level maps of North America and Europe; and build thematic maps, pushpin layers, territories, and drive-time zones. MapPoint also provided multi-stop route optimization, turn-by-turn directions, mileage and travel-time estimates, and optional GPS support for real-time tracking. It integrated with Microsoft Office and offered a COM automation model for embedding maps in documents and creating custom solutions.
Microsoft discontinued MapPoint in 2014 (the final release was MapPoint 2013). For modern mapping and location analytics, Microsoft recommends Bing Maps, Excel 3D Maps (Power Map), and Power BI.
